62 THE NEW BARKER
The 14th Annual East Coast Dog Surfing Festival, hosted by the Brevard
Humane Society, was held on April 5 at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach.
The event was sponsored by Ron Jon Surf Shop, and offered an array of activi-
ties that catered to both humans and their four legged companions. The event
featured two themed costume contests for the dogs. One was for Best Easter
Outfit, and the other was a bikini costume contest. Of course, the main attrac-
tion was the dog surfing competition. Canine athletes of all sizes and breeds
took to the waves, showcasing their balance and bravery on surfboards.
Between competitions, spectators browsed through vendor booths that offered
everything from artwork to dog wellness. The Festival was a resounding success,
bringing together a community of animal lovers from all over the state, and
celebrating the joy that pets bring to our lives. The event not only entertained
but also raised awareness and support for the welfare of animals in need.
Tater Tot (pictured above) from Tampa earned Best Rookie Surfer. Marlee
the Corgi (pictured far right) caught the perfect wave, then strutted her Corgi
butt on the runway for the Bikini Contest. Sara (pictured below left) won the
Bikini Contest.
