Hillsborough County’s Pet Resource 
Center is our county’s municipal open-
intake shelter. Despite the hurdles, they 
have managed to improve and maintain a 
higher live release rate than some donor-
funded private animal shelters in Florida. 
Their volunteers and staff are the lifeblood 
of that work.
If you still think of them as the pound, we 
invite you to visit, and see for yourself. 
Speak to their staff. Better yet, consider 
becoming part of their team as a volunteer.
Transparency and accountability are not 
just words sent out in a press release. 
They are goals staff and volunteers aim 
to achieve every day through the use 
of honest communication and modern 
shelter practices.
