I have saved all the magazine pages in a binder as the articles are as fabulous as the covers. I loved the cover of the new issue so much. I recently created a wall collage with the covers, as they are too cute to just sit on the coffee table. Is there any chance I can get three earlier issues to complete my collage? Paw-don Me, But This Magazine Looks Familiar I saw it last week in a veterinarian’s office. I thought at first it was a parody. Instead, I learned The New Barker is a regional publication in Florida that’s been quietly honoring The New Yorker since 2006. The Tampa Bay couple who owns it ran an ad agency and then turned to this venture. Anna Cooke has the title of editor in chief and has described herself as a fan of The New Yorker and magazines in general. Every cover of The New Barker features an original piece of canine art by a different artist, similar to how The New Yorker has original art on its covers — though dogs only occasionally get on those fronts. Leafing through the latest 78-page issue of the regional canine quarterly, I was happy to see animal rescue groups and shelters well represented in articles and ads. Other pages focus on canine health, and some on “style,” including an article on bow ties for man’s best friend and one about dog sculptures made of seashells gathered on St. Pete Beach. I neither need nor desire such things, but the publishers must have identified a desirable readership demographic before they launched.
